Orphans & Vulnerable Children

Orphans & Vulnerable Children

The heart and soul of Kyetume CBHCs mission is to serve vulnerable populations. It was with this in mind that programs centered on supporting one of societys most vulnerable groups of people, at-risk children,

were implemented. These programs are aimed at improving the welfare of children who are HIV+, orphaned, abandoned or living in impoverished households in Ntenjeru and Nakisunga sub-counties. These programs encompass several activities that address the immediate needs of vulnerable youth and their caretakers as well as ensure their long-term success.

The major OVC programs carried out by Kyetume CBHC include:

Child welfare support

All children and households that are beneficiaries of our OVC program are monitored by 25 child care workers trained in child focussed counselling, resilience building, home visit indicators, among others. These counsellors provide psychosocial support and HIV care to the OVC and their families, supervise OVC adherence to medication and best practices for raising vulnerable children.
